Ted it was indeed out of context. You quote your source as giving estimates of 4 to 5 million, when in the same statement the source says "Although the actual figures were probably much smaller". You give a partial quote to make it appear your source is saying that there where 4 to 5 million in the klan when really your source is saying there where a lot less than that. That is a textbook case of quoting out of context.

I very much doubt it was, but even if it war really that high you would still be quoting your source out of context. Your source says the figures where not that high and you presented the quote as if your source supported the idea that there were that many in the klan.


Fine. The Klan had little influence in the South and was mainly an extremist group.

All I can say is that for such an inconsequential group, they sure invoked a lot of fear and anguish among southern blacks.
