Canada gets protection from the US does not mean Canada has no enemies. It is also illogical to say Canada needs protection from the US when it has no enemies. Your argument is inconclusive, and points to the reason why Canadians continually diss the US while wanting free trade and defense. They have an identity crisis, and I can do nothing about that.
