I remember that, back in 1996 (not sure though) I bought USD at the rate of 1 USD = 28.97 BEF (Belgian franc)... Now, the BEF was pegged at 1 EUR = 40.3399 BEF. So, my point is that I bought USD in 1996 at the rate of 1 EUR = 1.44 USD. Right now, the EURO trades for about 1.33 USD --nothing to write home about!
