re: As far as understanding "funded" or "unfunded", funded means that you don't have to put in an extra dollar, and all the obligations will be paid out from the assets of the pension system. SS started as an unfunded system from day 1. The current unfunded obligations are in 10s of trillions of dollars, a multiple of officially recognized debt.

That's silly... you don't recognize that there is going to be revenue coming into the system.

I read in the Wall Street Journal (editorial board) that you could "save" SS by simply changing the annual adjustments from a wage basis calculation to an inflation basis calculation. The same article said that if you privatize a portion of SS you would have to raise SS taxes by 50%.

re: Most people (you are a good example) have no clue about any of this.

I take a reasonable measured approach as opposed to your "chicken little" rants.
