| By "Canada", I hope you don't mean the Canadian people, because if you do, you are wrong. Remember Iran and Canada's Taylor, Canadians stood proud then; remember Toronto's Gordon Sinclair during the dark days of Vietnam with his reminder of the good the USA does all over the world; remember the togetherness of our troops in Europe, the Pacific and Korea. Nothing much has changed....especially in the rural heart (from where all major constructive ideologies spring) of Canada ......with its country people. Cities produce little in the way of long-lasting, solid philosophies and ways of life for people to live by; they are simply places for people to work mostly at jobs that are not basic to our needs. Wars tend to polarize, sometimes to an amazing extent as evidenced here on these boards recently; and much of this, I sense, is from urbanites who whine and complain while their big neighbour protects them. Many Canadians I know give thanks to the United States of America, a country willing to police anarchy when it shows up in the world and is virtually always motivated by not much more than petty jealousy. While the current hostilities could be improved and even eliminated if the western affluent peoples would learn to share better (and in this regard, Americans seem do better than Canadians), at the same time, the spreading poisonous tentacles of fundamentalist Islam need to be stopped now before our children and grandchildren are overwhelmed by it. If hard times come to the United States, millions of Canadians will be there to help. |
