Yes, the 2-party system has some funny excuses.

Most of them from the darkest corners of history.

However, one of the strongest reasons is that a two-party system is better than
total chaos, multi-party-civil-war and anarchy.

Same stuff, answer, for more than 300 years.

PS However, two-party systems works very well for colonies and even local slums.
(that is why UK has these problems, while Wales, Scotland, both Irelands do not)
