I'm not so sure. The people of BC are quite opposed. Between NIMBY (we can get oil from Alberta) and more rivers to dam (next one on the Peace River, somehow salmon is less important than the coast) the opposition is quite strong, although I think, like many places, people are in denial about energy.
The NDP may just get in in the next election, too.

Even the oil and gas industry itself, which has the most to gain from development, has called BC offshore drilling a “low priority,” both because of its high cost and significant public opposition. With residents, workers, and oil and gas developers turning their backs on drilling, the question must be asked: “Why is our government pushing so hard?”
