From reading further about the California Christian teacher, it sounds like he was trying to pummel his students with whatever references to Christianity and God he could find. Fifth grade history is not mostly about God.

Nor was early America. It is a myth promulgated by the Christian right that we were a really, really religious nation with devout Christian leaders:
