The truth is that Canada is actually not a bad place to be in!
In fact, Canada (and not the US) is regarded in high esteem by many nations around the world.

The truth is also that Alex Beam was a Nabob of Negativism about Canada and he was generally irresponsible in his reporting.

Alex Beam was ignorant of the historical fact that one of America's Founding Fathers, Benjamin Franklin, recommended the rejection of Ontario, very much to the dismay and chagrin of latter-day Americans. (Yes, Ben screwed up big time: he thought Ontario was some useless outback hinterland.) That Ben was badly mistaken should have convinced self-serving jounalist Alex Beam that Canada is, after all, not a bad place to be in!
