They exist as vehicles to give degrees to people who couldn't cut it at the colleges they are attending if they did not exist.
We've always had that. There was phys ed and education. And, of course, basketweaving. If you scratch one, something else will pop up in its place. Leave them alone. They'll collapse under their own weight at some point.
