"...begin to tackle even one of the really large-scale issues confronting humanity: climate change, diminishing energy supplies, increasing shortages of fresh water, etc...."

IMO, it's all about large profits for a tiny number of individuals, families and organizations.

Alternative energy will seriously crimp the upcoming massive price increase in oil, coal and natural gas. Climate change is considered either: 1. a natural part of weather conditions on the planet like the last ice age or 2. an alarmist position or 3. the end of days.

Then there's the upcoming excitement over the PRIVATIZATION OF POTABLE WATER. Perrier? Poland Springs? How about brand name water (at an alarmingly high price) for use in your hot water heater or from out of your tap?

It's already started in South America I believe....the buying up of water.
