I saw that article on the front page of our Sunday NY Times, and have felt bad all day long after reading part of it.

Maybe if the stock market resumes its bear market, this foolish talk will fade away. My idea of social security is that it gives people just enough to live on so that I don't have to feel responsible for them. It has been sold as a retirement system but it really is a rescue package for improvident people. I guess George Bush is scornful of improvident people because he has always been provided for.
