Strange how one can be a poet and total moron at the same time. Last year I went with a business partner down his trap line and we found a full grown female timber wolf that weighed in at 150 lbs. caught in one of his traps.

She was still milking and probably was out hunting for food for her pups when she was caught in his trap. The pups would have just about been ready to wander out on their own but not quite ready to hunt. I'm not sure what happens to pups in the wild, i.e. if the pack takes over or they become prey for others but I could not help thinking of them waiting for their mother and what her last thoughts were.

If it would have been earlier in the season I would have tried to nab the pups which are worth between $2000 and $5000 up here but they would have been too old by this time to domesticate.
