Actually if you read the general's speech that I posted link to, you will see that Whalen was within the spirit of his opinion. The gist of what Dunlop says is that modern technology has an increasingly equalizing effect on warfare, to the extent that a well disciplined and ferocious society who is kills without pity and looks forward to honorable death can utilize off the shelf technology and break the back US will to fight.
