Very sad. We lived it in SF. And that man and others I met there lived it. He scared most people. He was large and so smelly. Seriously smelly. When we opened a bar at 7th and Market there was a woman who legend had it "was richer than God". But she pushed a shopping cart and... relieved herself in the doorway. lol. My boss couldn't take that even though he had me clean it before opening. So finally I got him to talk to her. "Not in the doorway, darlin', please?". and she stopped. I could see the large man getting violent someday. Too much cold, too much time on the streets. But he bought that cup that he'd never use because someone was kind to him. There was just no place for him in Reagan's California. And most people don't know how to talk "crazy" without being scared of the people. He broke my heart.
