Indoor red ants? The Yuppieville variety is certainly more sophisticated than the strictly outdoor dwellers of my boyhood on the plains of South Texas.

In our pre-TV days of the early '50s, red ants provided some of our entertainment, including frying them with a magnifying glass and capturing them in a Crisco can that we buried at ground level -- the ants would crawl up to the greasy rim of the can and topple in. It was cruel. Sorry Croc, but maybe you'll feel better knowing that we occasionally suffered a red ant sting, which hurt as badly as Rambi described. I think I remember that Clorox provided relief.

In South Texas the red ant is the mascot of a small-town high school. The Progreso Red Ants -- the name alone must strike fear in their opponents.
