Xybernaut Receives Award from U.S. Department of Homeland Security for Leadership in Emergency Data Interoperability

DHS Disaster Management eGov Initiative Recognizes Xybernaut-ComCARE Alliance Solution

FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 2004-- Xybernaut® Corporation (NASDAQ:XYBR - News) today announced that the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has recognized Xybernaut with an award for Outstanding Leadership in Emergency Data Interoperability.

Presented to Xybernaut by the Disaster Management eGov Initiative within DHS, the award is related to many separate instances of Xybernaut participation in federal, state and local community emergency preparedness.

One activity specifically highlighted as part of the award, was an initiative in which Xybernaut is working as a member of the ComCARE Alliance to develop standards for sharing emergency information between different first responder communities. This initiative is focused on developing industry standards for sharing data/information over communications and computing networks.

One element of the standards effort is the Emergency Data Exchange Language (EDEL), a software application that assists in creating a common computing environment in which information can be shared by emergency responder communities at all levels. The EDEL system was recently field-tested and Xybernaut was an active technology leader in that effort.

"Xybernaut has always developed systems and solutions that are open and standards-based. We are delighted to learn that joint efforts with our ComCARE Alliance partners have been evaluated by the executive leadership within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and that the company's efforts have been recognized for Outstanding Leadership in Emergency Data Interoperability," stated Steven A. Newman, president and COO of Xybernaut. "This recognition is particularly significant to us because it highlights a competitive differentiator that we have built into all aspects of the company - particularly our ability to provide mobile/wearable technologies that can be quickly and efficiently incorporated into computing and communication systems whether it be for data management by commercial enterprises or by first responders during emergency situations."

The recognized mobile/wearable computing solution incorporate Xybernaut Mobile Assistant® (MA V®) and Atigo® product families to meet various unique computing and knowledge management needs of law enforcement and emergency first responder teams.

The Xybernaut solutions provide on-scene capabilities such as support for digital cameras, GPS/navigation, audio/video, e-mail/messaging, database access and remote data gathering, report generation, connectivity to law enforcement knowledge centers and other features. A key feature of all Xybernaut systems and solution is support for commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) applications, peripherals and software.
