When you first said that critics like Harold Bloom are probably two-fisted drinkers in pursuit of sexual ecstasy, I thought that came out of left field. Now I know where that comes from. Didn't Plato say that all poetry is nothing but a pursuit of Eros? I had been unaware of the ancient quarrel between Plato and Homer, and just how badly Plato needed to stomp on Homer. I find this argument fascinating. It's funny though, everything Plato knew about etymology came from Homer. And he said Socrates was his only teacher. Bah!
