Bookdon, actually the reverse is true for LCD glass.

The glass is substantially more difficult to process for LCD than for traditional CRT's, especially at the large sizes (>=Gen5) that support the most efficient LCD manufacturing. Heck, the glass is a major value-added component in the supply chain. This is signalled by the fact that as LCD TV volumes have soared and prices have been reduced, glass panel suppliers (Corning, Asahi, etc.) remain sold out and glass panel prices have remained stable. Some LCD makers are actually prepaying the glass guys to help build glass-making plants and assure themselves a future glass supply.

FWIW, plasma and projection do not require anything like the quality of glass panel needed for LCD technology.
