I guess I view atheism as being a lack of belief in any supernatural deities - be it God, Jesus or Santa Claus- rather than a structured belief system that they would foist on someone. The atheists I know seem more concerned in not having God forced into public places than in an assertion that there is no God.

Of course you are right about absence of religion not equating with atheism. Careless word choice of my part. I should have said my son no longer believed in God. I am not much of a detail person which is why I usually don't post in the midst of so many professional debaters.
