(These stats are probably a lot worse now after the bust, maybe 1/2 out of 10, because the figures were based upon a study completed in the 90s before the bust but also before the boom.) Are you sure about this? Did you mean make it to IPO? I have worked for a number of startups over the past 10 years, most of them are not so promising, but I'd say all of them somehow survived either as an independent company or as a subsidary of a larger one. I have yet to work for one that totally failed.
