Protests mark Bush's visit to Canada OTTAWA, Nov. 30 -- Thousands of anti-Bush demonstrators gathered at Confederation Park in downtown Ottawa, calling for an end to the war in Iraq. The gathering attracted protesters opposed to the war in Iraq and Bush's plans for a North American missile shield system that would require Canadian participation. The demonstrators plan to topple a large paper statue of Bush, a reference to the role he played in invading Iraq and toppling leader Saddam Hussein in the spring of 2003. The Ottawa rally was one of about 25 planned across the countryto draw attention to Bush's policies and politics during his two-day visit to Canada. According to local reports, another major protest is planned for Wednesday morning in the eastern city of Halifax, where the USpresident will make a speech to thank the residents for helping the United States during the "9.11" attacks. The US president arrived here this morning for a two-day working visit. Bush is expected to have talks with Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin on bilateral and international issues, especially trade disputes and security cooperation between the twocountries.
