Have you read that Tony Campolo interview yet?
Yes, and what does it matter? He points out that 83% of evangelicals voted for Bush and are firmly on the right. Frankly, I can't tell the difference between 'the good' and 'the bad' evangelicals but more and more, I see them as the enemy.
In this latest election, the people across the street came 'out of the closet' with their Vote for Bush and Sportsmen for Bush signs. They go to church faithfully every Sunday. Shortly after I moved in, the wife brought over a Jesus video and invited me to their church. She never asked if I was Christian.......she just assumed. From time to time, I would see them on the street or at local parties, and would say hello.
Months later, I was at the local bank and felt someone staring at me. It was her husband, and if looks could kill, I would be dead now. Of course, when he saw me turn, he waved and stopped staring. There was not enough interaction between us to warrant that look.
I don't trust these people.........they say they are devout Christians......firm believers in the teachings of Jesus and yet, they don't act the part. They rarely smile. They are cordial but hardly friendly. If anything, they seem mildly disturbed. Any attempts at communication result in bland, say nothing answers. They are stepford people. I had learned to keep my distance well before the election.
I am still trying to find my spirituality; what my belief in God is. However, I want nothing to do with man's religions or its proponents. |
