Surely you have read the papers of the framers on this issue. I'm sure, if you try, you can recall language discussing not only the protection of religions from the state, but also the protection of those people who do not wish to be bothered by religion at all.

Ah yes, those framers. Most of them were pretty tolerant folks- for their time.

I have been surprised reading some of the original literature from the framers, as to just how wild and crazy they were for their time. Have you read Dumas Malone's multi-volume work on Jefferson? I was just rereading Jefferson and the Rights of Man. What a guy, that Jefferson.
