Rathergate - They Still Don’t Get It - Part 47

Learned commentary on developing social and technological trends by the successor to Tom Brokaw, Brian Williams:
cbs.marketwatch.com

When a fellow panelist mentioned that bloggers had had a big impact on the reporting on Election Day, Williams waved that point away by quipping that the self-styled journalists are “on an equal footing with someone in a bathroom with a modem.”

That a way Brian, insult your intelligent audience (i.e. people who know enough to use a computer, post online, and write cogently enough to have themselves read and vetted by professionals in multiple fields).

Not a surprise, but always good to be reminded of the culture of arrogance in the Mainstream Media that underlies the lack of concern over facts, truth, and (occasionally) basic, rational self interest.

The preponderance of evidence looking on the Rathergate scandal up till now is that it is not the capstone of bias and politically corruption in the Mainstream Media. It is more likely the portent of things to come. These guys will have to hit rock bottom before they change. It is that simple. Asking them to be thoughtful, fair, or impartial (or at this point, I would settle for non-obnoxious) is like asking a chimp to dance. It may happen, but odds are they are scratching something instead of understanding a word you say.
