beat a dead horse (or) chicken & egg question

Sarge,

Your thoughts are very clear and meaningful.

Hopefully mine will add to, rather than confuse or take away from.

I'm surprised Admin[Dave] has not added non programming insights
to SI's business plan based on his real life experiences that have spanned
an extra number of years pass BobZ's equal to IH's Sheriff Matt's age.

Real Estate "is" location location location

Market'n & Sales "is" delivery delivery product

SI's new products include enhanced and expanded existing features.

As you and others mentioned, its not the additional cash required
that has caused some to feel a prick, its the delivery.

Here is what Dave should of identified to BobZ.

THE SILICON INVESTOR CONSTITUTION

The Owners of Silicon Investor, in Order to form a Perfect Message Board,
have established a TOU Common Defence Justice system to provide for
and insure Posting Tranquility to promote the general Welfare
and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our membership,
do ordain and establish this Constitution...

Section. 8. Clause 1:
The Owners shall have Power To Lay and Collect Duties,
Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for
the common Defence and general Welfare of Silicon Investor.

Section. 8. Clause 2:
All Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout SI.

Section. 8. Clause 3:
Inalienable Rights acquired by Grandfathers and Lifers.
1. READ NEXT-morphous
2. BASIC SEARCH of PUBLIC POSTS (limited by common sense)

(ok)
Where did Dave fail BobZ & Matt?

(simple)
Subscriptions (using as a rank of) User Levels

(dumb)
times double bubble boil and trouble

(why?)
Grandfathers & Lifers have ALWAYS considered themselves PREMIUM members.

(meaning?)
NOT having the Basic set of features.

(which are comparied to what?)
Being less than a new paying member.

So here is the rub or prick felt.
(Level)
20 SI Quarterly $29.95
21 SI Semi-Annual $49.95
22 SI Annual $89.95

These by default as being the ONLY paying rate available
now become PREMIUM members, and anyone having less are "less."

(would could should of done)

The only BASIC feature set are those obtained by FREEs.
(aka) Read Next

(Section. 8. Clause 3: Inalienable Rights)
New paying members SHOULD BE identical to Grandfathers & Lifers.

Now all the "above & beyonder" stuff no other message board
on the internet has, like Advanced Search and other stuff BobZ
has waiting to be released from his over-stuffed gray matter
is available for extra cost to EVERYONE, called Premium,
or if above STANDARD would rather be called Premium,
then this pay for new & exciting stuff is called Premium-PLUS.

(so, this way to accomplish)
Market'n & Sales "is" delivery delivery product
So that one does not un-deliver to Grandfathers & Lifers.

Forget the Level chastise system.
(do)

non paying (i.e. READ NEXT)

Grandfathers & Lifers & Paying (i.e. READ NEXT[1,10,50,100]
---
SI PLUS (Annual) Upgrade (i.e. Advanced Search)
---

(or) Oops says BobZ & Dave... "Its more attractive to potential new members
if they see included in the membership price these over and beyonder
new & exciting super features.

(or) Duh, what about those that need not Advanced Search
and would rather be a paying member and pay for less.
(aka)
xx SI Quarterly $19.95
xx SI Semi-Annual $39.95
xx SI Annual $79.95
(versus)
20 SI Quarterly $29.95
21 SI Semi-Annual $49.95
22 SI Annual $89.95

Oops, Graystone asks what about the top of this post's:
(or) chicken & egg question

ok, re: To: Sarge From: PineValley
I appreciate your response. I am on SI because I found it first,
... Yes, the members make the community, but I still stand
by my original point. They were "lucky", "fortunate", whatever,
to "find" the site when the site was free.
... just don't understand the complaining from those
who have never opened their wallets. Regards.

ok, chicken & egg
did SI's members "make" SI
or did SI "make" the membership

to me its the wrong question, too unanswer'able :o)

Conside the year the markets crashed (199?) and posting volume
fell and remained low with low new paying members signing up.

For those that had a paying membership expire, why pay again
when they can read for free as unregistered, and the quanity
and necessary'ness was deminished by most losing investments.

But SI still received ad payments by eyeballs click'n pages.

But what caused new posts to be made?

My guess is that the Grandfathers & Lifers keep SI "just" alive
those years after the market crashed, and if they were not in
the position of not having to pay to post, 90% would not have posted,
and there would have been 90% less eyeballs reading web pages
on SI with ad revenue generated.

"just" alive the Grandfathers & Lifers keep SI.

If that is true, then BobZ, Matt and now Dave would not now have
the opportunity presently in their possession.

Most likely Matt's new IH would have received most all
of the membership base of SI once it gone in bankruptcy,
and ceased to exist except on magnetic surfaces never loaded.

BobZ would just be an employee someplace, not an owner.

Dave would still wonder where o where is a good place to put
all that wealth to leave to my wonderful children & grandchildren.

Graystone would feel more than his usual "lost" feeling.

:o)
