Don't be mad at me. I've done nothing to deserve that except express a personal belief that in my mind is pretty hard to argue with.

I read the link you posted which, by the way, was not the same SI link posted on the prior post. I honestly believe that people who spoke of "moral values" really meant "traditional values". I think there are many people like myself who believe that our traditions are being watered down. Although I'm sure you believe you've connected the dots that point to some historic meltdown in our country I'm remain unconvinced. I'm not qualified to speak on a military level. I've never been part of the military so I have nothing of value to offer. But I do think I can speak about middle America with a degree of knowledge. Middle America is not uneducated. I live in one of the most educated cities in the United States (Madison, Wisconsin) and it is Middle America. While Madison is very liberal its also quite traditional. We see our country's tradition being swept away a little bit at a time and that is alarming. We have schools that can't so much as utter the word God but they feel they can impose political beliefs on our kids - I don't agree with that! Nor do I agree that schools should be teaching our kids values that should come from home. To a degree I blame parents for not properly preparing their kids for the education cycle. But I also blame activist teachers who think its their place to impose their belief system on our children. Another issue I see is with diversity. I think cultural diversity is fine as it plays a role in educating our kids about people from different places and many walks of life. However, when diversity goes beyond the educational process and starts to tear down our traditions I begin to have a problem. Our country has always had an open door policy. It's not always been an easy transformation to American culture for people but they've managed to do it. Today things are different. We don't have people flocking to our country to become Americans. We have people flocking to our country expecting us to change our traditions from the way we speak to our holidays. That, my friend, just isn't going to happen. Our kids can't dress up for Halloween at school (remember when you and I did?), they can't have speak of their families religious beliefs or even have a "Holiday Tree". If any of the above happen it's thought to be insensitive to others. Those are just a few things that slowly sweep away at what were traditional values in America. None of that may bother you but some of it bothers me. And apparently I'm not the only one. So I honestly believe that people who stated "moral values" as their prime reason really mean traditional values. Middle America values! They want to get back to a simpler time when talking about a holiday or how we (as European settlers) created the United States without having to feel guilt for decisions that were made 250 years ago. I didn't kill the Indians and I didn't make black people slaves so don't saddle me with those things and make me feel as if I'm on thin ice just to make sure we're being sensitive. Middle America wants to keep its traditions and I believe they responded by saying so with their vote in the last 2 elections. These were votes that said NO to changing our culture for immigrants. These were votes that demanded that immigrants come here and fit into our culture - not bitch until we change our culture to fit them.

Thats JMHO
