What is "something that none of them" mentioned? The conclusions C2 quotes seem to basically say in too many words that the US needs better PR, which is probably true but not particularly stunning in insight. Well, it might be stunning around here, where the "why do they hate us?" question always seems to be answered by a "we must not have a hatred gap" assertion of some form or another, but that's another story.

Anyway, from the NYT story, also from Sun Tzu's original post, there was this quote:

The report says that "Muslims do not 'hate our freedom,' but rather they hate our policies," adding that "when American public diplomacy talks about bringing democracy to Islamic societies, this is seen as no more than self-serving hypocrisy."

The most brilliant PR in the world can't cover up a policy that has manifestly obvious problems and is run by "Arab Mind" types who figure that since Arabs are allegedly really touchy about face and humiliation, you got to humiliate them really good to make a point. Offhand, if there's any truth to the "Arab Mind" thing, humiliation would seem to be a good way to make more enemies, but I guess that would go back to the hatred gap.
