Louis, my memory is not as good as I wished it was, but I thought that there was a problem with mining within the 200 mile EEZ, that required approval from the other signatories?
I had Antartica in mind when I stated that "we do not want the evil mining cos. etc." Lots of coal. copper, lead zinc, silver, gold, uranium, titanium, cobalt, manganese iron and even oil, but alas:
"There has never been any commercial mining in Antarctica, there are no current plans to mine Antarctica and mining is currently completely banned by the Antarctic Treaty. There are no known future plans by any of the Antarctic Treaty nations to reverse this decision."
