I watched a panel of experts discussion on tv a couple of months ago. The Director of Energy said that we have the ability to end our dependency on oil but it will take 15 years to make the change overs (coal, wind, natural gas, nuclear etc). She said we have about 15 years to continue oil consumption. We can start now and make a smooth transition or wait and it will be more of a crisis.
