The other chickens peck at it until the wounded chicken is dead. Best thing to do is kill the wounded chicken, split it open and the other chickens will eat it. Your article mentions turkeys. Did you know a job called turkey walker exists? They keep the turkeys moving so they don't sit in the sun and cook. Same with pulling turkeys out of the fence, turkeys are too dumb to turn around when they come to a fence.
