They claim we are only after their oil, yet the Muslim despots suck up all the revenues to further their own interests while their people live in poverty.

But we enforce our "indignation" selectively and in the process we lose our credibility for the very hearts and minds we need to win there. SA is among the greatest offenders of your described behaviour, yet SA is one of our closest allies. Why? Because it tows the line, even though it is far from the democracy we claim to wish for the people of the ME. Don't think this has no effect on the people in the region...don't think that it has a negative effect on our ability to conduct policy there.
Ditto with Egypt, Pakistan, pre revolution Iran, Iraq over the years, Kuwait, yada, yada, yada.

Should I be ashamed that the U.S. government unabashedly serves the interests of the U.S. people first and then tries to help other countries second?

No...you should expect that it do so fairly, for the same reasons that you demand Iran's fairness relative to our interests in the region.

But evidently, Muslims would rather see a completely destroyed Iraq, rather than allow a democracy to spring up in the heart of their land.

Some of your observations are overly simplistic. Yeah...some of our best friends in the region wouldn't mind seeing us fail.
