Uh, a fine thread of revisionism you are spinning there.
Before Gulf War I - certainly it was Saddam's fault for calling it, I have no argument there - Iraq was a fairly well to do middle class society for the most part. Clearly the Iran-Iraq war (which we helped him with, but also helped the Iranians too) had something to do with draining their resources.
But we did more.
Embargoes. Sanctions. Intentional bombing of water, sewage and electrical systems -- Dept. of Defense documents specifically state that it was a strategy designed to cause illness among his people. And so it did.
Still they muddled through, damn them!
So, we attacked them again and did a bang up job this time of destroying even more of the country and in the process started a civil war.
But no matter, Haliburton, Bechtel and other US friends of Bush will make money off of the exercise, and, this is the best part if you are into oppressing a people, we are making Iraq pay for our attacks.
What a scam!
Who shall we bomb back to the stone age next (and then make them pay for it)?? Nigeria? Venezuela? Iran? All of the above? |
