As I have previously said, I do not support military intervention against moderate regimes, even if they are not democratic. A regime would have to pretty brutal for me to consider armed intervention. Even then, I would prefer supporting indigenous rebellion to putting American troops directly on the line. Ordinarily, I think that democracy should be promoted by diplomacy and cultural exchange.

On the "oxymoronic" note: I believe in universal human values. I do not think that promoting liberal democracy and capitalism is "promoting our heritage", I think it is promoting decent states and economic growth, and thus the dignity of man. I do not think that freedom of speech or religion are Western rights, I think they are human rights.
