a) Only if one lives in the US. b) If the USD keeps tanking. If the USD could turn around and be strong again then US holders must sell their gold ASAP, likewise, non-US investors must buy.

> I think Mr Wallenwein misses a point here

He's trying to push gold, that's all he's concerned about.

> Japan and, even more, China have another option to cut their losses on their huge US debt holdings

Theoretically, yes, but they won't simply because the holdings of US Treasuries act as reserve assets in the Chinese/Japanese banks.

> how much foray into corporate America will be granted to Chinese corporations?

All depends on the cost of American workers. At present, with Chinese labour a fraction of the cost of US, there's no incentive for them to do so.

> is the US ready to play "the workshop's subsidiary"?

It is already. If not for the US the Chinese boom would have fizzled out long ago. But, clearly, it will be some time before China can push the US around.

> "we'll buy/bail you out with your own debt... we'll shop around corporate America and pay with US T-bills... we'll give you back your debt claims --in exchange for your productive assets..."

The US doesn't mind that game. In fact, everything in the US is for sale -- including the government.
