Thursday December 2, 08:42 PM NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - November was a very good month for Fox News Channel -- the channel's highest-rated month since the Iraq war in 2003.
Fox News Channel scored a perfect 10 -- and then some -- in total viewers, racking up the top 11 shows in cable news, according to data released Wednesday by Nielsen Media Research. That's the first time it's ever happened in the News Corp.-owned network's eight-year history.
CNN's "Larry King Live" is traditionally in the top 10 but slipped to 12th place with an average of 1.2 million viewers. Some of Fox News Channel's daytime programs -- including "Fox & Friends" and "Your World with Neil Cavuto" -- averaged more viewers. "The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox News Channel was the top show with an average 3 million viewers. Fox News Channel's primetime average was 2.1 million viewers, an increase of 70% compared to the same month a year ago. CNN averaged 982,000 viewers, up 15% and MSNBC was up 53% to 442,000 viewers.
November was an unusually busy month for news, not only with the presidential election in the first few days but also the death of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
Fox News Channel had a higher number of average viewers in the news demographic of adults 25-54 than its competitors as well as a 56% rise in total day viewers. Fox News Channel averaged 1.2 million viewers in total day, compared to CNN's 572,000 viewers. |
