First of all

Had we wanted "their oil" we could have taken it in 1991. We have the means to take anyones oil in 24 hours and not go through the casualties or the expense we have in Iraq.

Second - They live in poverty because their leadership has made it that way. These countries (including SA) could be some of the most wealthy, advanced societies on earth but their leadership takes the money for themselves. As such they have terrible infrastructure and lag behind other more advanced cultures. This has been a choice - not an imposition by America.
