I read the article and almost gagged. After some unbelievably miserable, no excuse problems with Gateway over a faulty modem in this notebook [which I was given, I didn't pick it out] I had decided, for a number of reasons, to buy my next notebook from IBM. Now I'm glad I had planned waiting until after Christmas.

re this Gateway: I had gone though all the diagnostics and had full information when I placed my call to Gateway technical support the beginning of November. After 2 separate calls that wasted over 3 1/2 hours of my time _and_ an argument that Rhode Island is **not** a country, it is a **state** in the U.S.A., I was informed I had to pay $44. for a box to send in the notebook, even though it is under warranty [no mention of this charge is made in the warranty information]. Next, the box was scheduled to be dropped off **5** days later. The final blow was a refusal to give an estimated repair time once they received it. I was informed C.S. would send e-mail to the repair center if they had it more than one month. I was told it might take a less time, but I should be prepared to be without it for a month. Everything depended on how busy they were. I cancelled the repair and bought a card modem. My next notebook is going to be purchased before the warranty on this thing runs out. Gateway deserves to be having financial problems.
