the answer i received, flickerful, is that it is because it is battered and
fried in the manner of chicken. All other fried dishes that I know of are
referred to as fried ______. As in fried chicked, fried okra, fried squash,
ect. Why is it not simply fried steak? Why is a noble hunk of dead cow saddled
with a reference to a beady-eyed chicken? Even the old-timers cannot answer
these questions. 'That's what we've always called it,' they say, 'now shut up
and eat and quit pesterin' us with your dadburn questions.'
