When Karl Rove was in high school he was kind of a short, unattractive guy who couldn't play sports or get a girl. What he was excellent at was using "dirty tricks" even in his schools elections. This talent he had became well known and it has been his hallmark for decades.
He's smart and savvy at back stabbing.
Rather slurped that t-bone of a story up like a grizzly, and ran with it.
It was basically 100% true but came from a forged set of documents that was eventually easy to expose.
I fault Rather for not verifying that piece before he reported it. Brokaw would have IMO.
