The above paragraph is typical of what I was saying.....it shows clearly the thinking of the right. In their view, it wasn't about the Watergate scandal. It was about some guy named Alger Hiss and the anger it caused the left. It had nothing to do with the fact that Nixon was involved in the Watergate scandal and lied about it. And yet, the right impeached Clinton over his lying about Lewinsky

I am not old enough to remember. I do recall the press whining about Alger Hiss. But I do not know the details of it. Since I was not there, I cannot judge whether the press unfairly criticized Nixon for his role in the Hiss trial, not can I judge whether your response is just a knee jerk liberal criticism.
Do a search....learn the history. The Russian gov't in 1996 said that Alger Hiss was not in their record books as a counterspy, and to the best of their knowledge, did not do what Nixon accused him of doing......ruining his career in the process. Between the late 1940s and the mid 50s, the GOP ruined the careers of a number of good people.
You still don't get it. Nixon will go down in history as the moral superior to Clinton. As long as you filter everything through your bias, you never will understand why Clinton was impeached.
Have you ever seen the old videos of Nixon? If you had, you would not have made the statement above.....no one will ever think that guy was honest....with the shifty eyes, the constant 6'o'clock shadow and the 24/7 sweat glands.
Lying under oath caused Clinton’s impeachment. The relevance of Clinton's crime was similar in nature to breaking in entering or murder.

When you are the chief law enforcement officer, any corruption is unacceptable. Nixon if he had not resigned would have been impeached.
I do not equate the two behaviors. I am sorry you can not make a distinction between breaking and entering, and lying about a sex act under oath. In fact, I am embarrassed that grown adults made this as big an issue as they did. Frankly, they needed to get a life and not be so partisan. |
