I'm not sure I was "debating public [display] of religious symbols" - in fact I'm sure I wasn't - but frankly I find this whole debate rather silly. Are people really debating whether a menorah is more or less religious in its symbolism that a Christmas tree? Give me a freakin' break! What an incredible waste of time and energy! The FACT is that there is nothing in our constitution that prohibits public displays that acknowledge religion. The only restriction is on promotion or suppression of a particular religion or religion in general. Acknowledgement is not promotion, especially when all relevant faiths (or non-faiths) are acknowledged.

That said, the most interesting thing to me is whether anyone here will actually discuss this issue itself, whether the extent of expression is posting of third party opinions, or whether you all will revert to debating what is reasonable justification for banning, what is or isn't an insult, etc. This has turned into such a silly place. Or was it always like that?
