People post articles here because they find them interesting, and probably want to debate the contents. Or not. Or they want to expose other posters to points of view they don't hear on Rush Limbaugh's radio show (sorry, I couldn't resist).

A lot of people at SI are trying to hold down a law practice while they hang out here, or run a business, or even supervise their small children. So posting an article is a short-cut to something more. It's something you can do when you have to concentrate on several things at a time.

SI IS a silly place, and you are extremely intellectual in kind of an academic way, so you might be disappointed at what passes for proof positive here. Even really bright people enjoy getting involved in petty squabbles, just like the proletariat likes to kick back with a beer in front of the tv for cheap thrills . . . petty debates are cheap thrills for the intelligentsia at SI.
