Great post, mindmeld, on many levels. I kind of liked Sadaam's challenge to Bush to a duel. In a way, it would be nice to settle scores that way. Even though he was a cowardly despot, that little bit of swagger, in an attempt to avoid a humiliating war, seemed a brave move.

Of course, the devil was in the details.

1) What weapon? If none, I would give the odds to Bush as he is in shape, younger, etc. If the sword, then probably Sadaam. If pistols, then it comes down to skills learned shooting someone in the back of the head vs. a little military training and hunting experience. Most other athletic challenges, e.g., from baseball to a 50 yard dash, would be easy victories for Bush LOL. (Equations and odds get very interesting if you throw Cheney vs Tarik Assiz in there.)(How about Sharon v Arafat - before he died of course LOL?)

2) How do you enforce the winner's bargain? Would the "people" abide by the winner's victory or would they just use it as a method of getting power and continuing the jihad?

Silly things to think about in a very, very scary environment. I think I'll stick to comic books.
