BINGO, David. What people don't realize is that if we counted up what is owed to everyone who has paid into social security, then the SS trust fund is insolvent. The underfunded amount is in the trillions of dollars and is expected to reach $40 trillion by 2040, by some estimates.

So my prior post was all about everyone getting their head out of the sand and realizing that our government has an unfunded liability that they aren't recognizing on the books. So the first step for paying this thing off, is by recognizing that it exists. The next step is by eliminating the stupid and fiscally irresponsible social security system we have in place today. Either that or we can end up like Germany, which pays out tons of money in excess of what is contributed to millions who don't want to or can't work. Our current system is a one way ticket to U.S. bankruptcy.
