NEWS RELEASE
QUARTZ BRECCIA YIELDS GOOD ASSAYS
The Company is pleased to announce that its ongoing diamond drilling programme at the South Niaouleni Zone, Niaouleni Gold Projec t in Mali is yielding positive results. Diamond Drill Hole No. 2 (SN DDH 97-02) intersected a 7.25 meter (23.79 feet) quartz brecciated zone averaging 6.48 grams gold/t (0.19 oz/t), which include a 0.25 meter (0.82 ft) quartz vein averaging 154.86 gpt (4.52 oz/t). The quartz breccia was encountered at 65 meters (213 ft) below the surface. The samples were tested and re-checked by fire assaying at the Intertek Testing Services (Bondar Clegg) Laboratory in Guinea.
Two earlier reverse circulation drill holes also intersected the same breccia structure with the following results: RC 94-11 yielded 12.76 gpt (0.37 opt) over 8 meters (26 ft) at 30 meters (98 ft) below the surface; and RC 94-23 yielded 8.35 gpt (0.24 opt) over 6 meters (20 ft) at 14 meters (46 feet) below the surface. A test pit (MH 94-03) excavated 20 meters southwest of RC 94-11 intersected what appears to be a parallel gold bearing structure. This 5.3 gpt - 10 meter thick zone was exposed by the test pit only to a depth of 17 meters but its actual botttom has not yet been determined. The last one meter section at the base of the test pit assayed 5.92 gpt.
The main breccia zone is open ended to the north, south and at depth. The breccia's high assay values are adjacent to the major aeromagnetic anomaly discovered earlier through an airborne geophysical survey conducted by Aerodat Inc. of Toronto, Ontario.
Other holes drilled along the footwall and/or south of the aeromagnetic anomaly and located south - southwest of SN DDH 97-02 yielded encouraging gold values in one meter width sections, including: 3.40, 4.98, 1.65, 3.39 and 2.84 grams gold per tonne. A closer spaced drilling will be required to determine whether the intersections from which these values were derived are related to the breccia zone or belong to other adjacent structures.
The hole now being drilled at South Niaouleni is intended to determine the northern extension of the quartz breccia zone for another 100 meters. The Company will continue the current South Niaouleni drilling programme by extending it along a north - north easterly direction for an additional 500 to 1,000 meters into the Libre Plateau Zone. The latter appears to be the extension of the quartz breccia structures in the South Niaouleni Zone.
