I think the correct question is, "Is it all right for every living thing to exist in its own domain and accept all the risks and benefits thereof?"

The answer to this question can't be debated, because without an affirmative answer no life is possible.

Boiling lobsters alive gives me the creeps too. I remember feeling sorry for some clams that my brother dug on the Oregon coast and brought to me for dinner. I can't say that I feel any regret for the carrots, peas, and broccoli that I ate alive this morning, without even bothering to submit them to boiling water first.

It's not a universal moral question; it's an individual question. An individual choice. God gave mankind a painfully sentient brain so it could make those choices that no other creature makes.

You know I'm a hunter, right? Within walking distance of my house I could hunt ducks and Canada geese anytime I want, within season.

Do I take my shotgun down to the lake and shoot ducks and geese every day? No. I am not fond of waterfowl meat. But I AM fond of watching ducks and geese flying, resting, sleeping, feeding, and breeding.

I could choose to hunt ducks and geese, but I choose not to. Everyone who can't bear the idea of boiling a lobster alive should not go to the lobster festival up in Maine.

It's an individual choice.
