Croc--
I have been on the phone this morning with our dear friends in Ky. whose daughter (CW's age and in grad school at NWestern) has been to the ER twice this week with something that they suspect is either some form of staph infection that is hitting young people in Chicago (what could this be??) OR brown recluse bites. There are no brown recluse in Chi but my friend says they stored their daughter's mattresses in their garage over the summer and she wonders if somehow a nest was made and transported. The two bites are in the buttocks and hip area. Yesterday they found black necrosis (sp?) around one and had to cut it out.
Of course they are terrified. More so because, like any young person, her daughter is in exams, and keeps insisting on going back to class although in pain and sick.

But brown recluse are the flesheaters we read about, yes?
I am so upset and worried about her. Do you have these up there?
I am also wondering if anyone has heard about this staph that infects yourg people-- that seems weird.
