If that had been presented by the Bush Cabal as a reason for the war I would certainly have given it consideration, but it wasn't.

Certainly if the U.S. spends a couple of hundred billion dollars and over 1,000 solders' lives in an action, I expect some benefit to accrue to the U.S., otherwise what is the point?

Given the situation in Iraq, I think it is unlikely that we will be able to maintain control over its reserves, as that would require a stable Iraq government that is friendly towards the U.S.
