Wow! I almost forgot those prices. My first PC was an IBM (because no one else built them in those days). I paid about $3800 for it. It was an 8080 with 256 MB of RAM and two floppy drives (no hard drive) and an 11 inch amber monitor. It came with DOS and no software. I had to buy Lotus 1-2-3 and Word Perfect (which I think were nearly the only choices I had).

Everyone was in the hunt for "shareware" which was usually free.
